SOUTH AFRICA
Climate Action Partnership
CAP is an alliance between major conservation organizations in South Africa who have a common vision of reducing the impact of climate change on South Africa's unique natural diversity. CAP aims to reduce species extinctions by planning for climate change, for example by incorporating conservation corridors into South African landscapes, allowing species to shift their ranges in response to changes in climatic conditions. CAP also works to reduce South Africans' carbon footprints and in addition offers carbon footprint offset opportunities through forest rehabilitation projects in South Africa, benefiting the climate while at the same time increasing habitat for forest species and creating jobs for rural communities.
The CAP partners are:
- Conservation International South Africa
- The Wilderness Foundation of South Africa
- The Wildlands Conservation Trust
- The Botanical Society of South Africa
- The Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA)
- The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT)

WWF Brazil
Brazil's major contribution to climate change stems from deforestation inside the country, especially in the Cerrados and in the Amazon. WWF-Brazil seeks to revert this situation by fostering the creation of conservation areas and sustainable development activities in these biomes and by pushing forth the adoption of reduced deforestation targets by Brazilian government. UNISDR
The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) is the global effort of 168 nations, UN agencies, financial institutions, civil society organizations, the scientific and academic communities, and the general public who are working together to reduce the impact of disasters caused every year by natural hazards due to climate change. This change in the earth's environment will intensify the current situation making natural disasters more frequent, and more severe - for more people around the globe. In the past 30 years the number of storms, droughts, floods, hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes and landslides has increased threefold and the cost in both lives and in dollars has increased fivefold. The ISDR encourages everybody to learn how to live with and adapt to the impact of climate change. The necessary reduction of carbon emissions is one part of the solution; and behavior adaptation is the other action that should be taken now by every government, and every person ? in order to protect lives and save livelihoods for millions of people today and in the future. Disaster risk reduction, is everyone's business.
National Museum of the American Indian
For more than half a century, American Indian elders have called attention
to humankind's impacts upon our Mother Earth. Elders of many cultures
subscribe to the concept that we must take into consideration the effects of
our actions today on future generations. Climate change presents an
important challenge to the global community to incorporate into its
practices and policies the wisdom and knowledge of the interrelatedness of
elements and life on Earth that are inherent in many American Indian
cultures, as well as the prevailing evidence offered by science. It is time
to regain that integrated understanding of the world that for millennia has
characterized many Native traditions. Preserving the health of the Mother
Earth is the gravest responsibility of our generation. As an institution of
living cultures, the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian is
committed to elevating human understanding about global climate change
through education, cultural performances, and civic engagement programs.
Project S.N.A.P.
Project S.N.A.P. gives K-12 students around the world a chance to speak out about saving their planet. Students are creating artwork in the form of paintings, word paintings, photographs, and drawings to express their ideas on different ways in which they are working to save the Earth and help combat the global climate crisis. Artwork created by students is assembled into giant mosaic murals which are displayed in prominent locations across the globe. Project S.N.A.P. is currently accepting artwork from students all over the world to create the largest mosaic mural in the history of the planet Earth, the "Million Child Mosaic."
